Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) in Southern California, Hawaii and Guam 友善列印

The Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) is Taiwan's national standardized test designed and developed by the National Taiwan Normal University to evaluate and certify the Chinese language proficiency of non-native speakers. Since its first launch in 2003, it has served Chinese language learners in more than 60 countries.  The Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles (TECO-LA) took the lead in holding the TOCFL Listening & Reading test in Los Angeles in 2009. Since then, thousands of test-takers within TECO-LA’s jurisdiction have taken the exam.

In 2023, the Education Division of TECO-LA will be collaborating with Chinese schools and colleges to conduct tests during the months of March, April, and May. This includes partner universities of the Taiwan Huayu BEST-Bilingual Exchanges of Selected Talent Program such as UCLA, UCSB, UCI, UH Manoa, and the University of Guam. Students from these institutions are welcome to contact the Chinese Language Division at each university for details. We also offer the Children's Chinese Competency Certification (CCCC) for Chinese school students aging from 7-12. This certification was designed with consideration for children’s specific cognitive and linguistic development, with a special emphasis on their everyday lives and interests.

Additionally, the Education Division will conduct a test at Pasadena City College on Saturday, April 8, 2023,  to serve students who are not affiliated with the universities listed above, or students who plan to apply for Taiwan Scholarship or Huayu Enrichment Scholarship.  If you are interested,  please visit https://depart.moe.edu.tw/LA/cp.aspx?n=9E66E8BA13FD8AF7&s=FC32F62EF8973330 to learn more and sign up before March 8 by sending your application via email to losangeles@mail.moe.gov.tw.
