The Maine Central Institute (MCI) and many senior high schools in Taiwan have signed into established sister-school partnerships and performed substantial interactions. For attending the in-person courses of a summer camp within the Dual-Degree Programs of MCI and Taiwanese senior high schools, 52 Taiwan students recently flew from Taiwan to MCI. Among them, approximately half came from Tao-Yuen City. To support the international collaborations, the Tao-Yuen City has organized a delegation led by Mr. Ming-Yu Lin, Director of Department of Education of Tao-Yuen City, to accompany the students for the visit. In addition to leading the delegation, Mr. Lin was also commissioned to observe the educational environment of Maine and to explore further and other collaborational opportunties.
On the 11th day of July, 2022, MCI arranged for all of the summer-camp in-person course participants, approximately 100 students, a field trip to the College of Engineering of University of Maine (UMaine). UMaine invited the Taiwan delegation led by Mr. Lin and Ms. Cynthia Huang, the Director of Education Division of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office(TECO) in Boston to join the trip in visiting UMaine.
The group of more than 100 visitors were welcomed by Dr. Brian Olsen, the Associate Provost for Student Success and Strategic Initiatives of UMaine and accompanied by Dr. Orlina Boteva, the Director of International Programs of UMaine for this visit. The visitors have benefitted enormously by the on-site observation of the Engineering laboratories and equipments, including the largest 3D printer in the world and its products. The visitors were all greatly impressed by the vast educational investment of the Maine government to the flagship university of the state.
