On Oct. 25th, Ambassador Alexander Yui met a delegation from the Taiwan Gay Sports and Movement Association who are striving for Taiwan to host the 2030 Gay Games. The delegation led by Taiwan Gay Sports and Movement Association Chair Mr. Lai, presented their vision for bringing the 2030 Gay Games to Taipei under the theme, “Faster, Stronger, Freer: Rainbow Champions in Taiwan.”

As the first country in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage, Taiwan has become a regional leader in LGBTQ+ rights and a model of progressive values. Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States emphasized Taiwan’s commitment to equality, diversity, and human rights, demonstrating a standard of respect and inclusivity for the international community. Hosting the Gay Games in Taipei would not only showcase Taiwan’s diverse values to the global community but also welcome people from around the world, strengthening international connections.

Furthermore, Taiwan has extensive experience hosting large-scale international events and offers a supportive and inclusive social environment, making it well-prepared to host an event of this magnitude. The Taiwan Gay Sports and Movement Association’s vision for this bid is to unite people worldwide through sports, promoting equality and celebrating diversity. As the only non-English-speaking city in the bid, Taipei stands out with its unique cultural experience and robust infrastructure, showcasing strong advantages across all areas.

“This opportunity to host the Gay Games would allow Taiwan to unite people worldwide in a spirit of inclusivity and respect,” said the delegation. “Our values are universal, and we look forward to sharing them with the world through the 2030 Gay Games.”

Deputy Representative Andrea Yi-Shan Yang and Education Division Director Sophie Chou of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States also voiced their support for the Taiwan Gay Sports and Movement Association's bid to host the 2030 Gay Games on Oct. 26, 2024 at the Federation of Gay Games Annual General Assembly. This strong support for the bid reaffirms Taiwan’s commitment to advancing LGBTQ+ rights globally and underscores its dedication to fostering international connections based on mutual respect and shared values.
