On January 13th, 2026, Secretary Robert Lee, the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO), was invited to virtually present Taiwan’s overview and scholarship opportunities to 27 undergraduate students majoring in political science at the William & Mary, one of the most historic and prestigious universities in Williamsburg, Virginia. The session was hosted by Dr. Marcus Holmes, Professor and Chair of the Department of Government and Director of the Political Psychology and International Relations Lab (PPIR), at William & Mary.

During the presentation, Taiwan Ministry of Education (MOE) key scholarship initiatives for American students, including the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship, the Taiwan Scholarship, and the Taiwan-ACTFL Future Educator Scholarship were highlighted. These programs reflect the MOE’s continued commitment to supporting Taiwan’s quality Mandarin Chinese learning, cultivating future educators on teaching Mandarin Chinese as a second language, and attracting outstanding students to pursue academic degrees and professional development in Taiwan.

The outreach event underscored the MOE’s commitment in strengthening Taiwan–U.S. educational ties and expanding global engagement through higher education and language programs. By working closely with U.S. universities, the MOE aims to enhance people-to-people connections, foster mutual understanding, and further advance the objectives of the U.S.–Taiwan Education Initiative.
