
135 Filipino Scholars Honored at the 2025 Taiwan Scholarship Awards Ceremony
On 7 August 2025, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines held the 2025 Taiwan Scholarships Awards Ceremony in Manila to recognize 135 outstanding Filipino students who have been awarded Taiwan Government scholarships for the upcoming academic year.
Among the recipients are 22 scholars under the MOE Taiwan Scholarship for bachelors, masters and doctoral programs, 18 under the TaiwanICDF Scholarship for masteral and doctoral partner programs, and 93 under the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship for short term Mandarin language learning. Notably, for the first time, two Filipino students were awarded the prestigious MOFA Taiwan Scholarship, signifying the Philippines’ inclusion among its partner countries.’
These scholarships are part of Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy, which seeks to strengthen regional cooperation and foster lasting people-to-people connections.
In his keynote message, TECO Representative Wallace Chow congratulated the scholars and encouraged them to serve as goodwill ambassadors for Taiwan. He also reaffirmed Taiwan’s commitment to enhancing educational cooperation with the Philippines, particularly in emerging fields such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence and electronics.
MECO Corporate Secretary Atty. Evangeline De Leon and CHED Commissioner Desiderio Apag III also delivered inspiring messages, emphasizing the important role of scholarship programs in nurturing future leaders and further strengthening the deep and enduring friendship between Taiwan and the Philippines.
