駐波士頓教育組代表中華民國(臺灣)教育部,於2023年10月24日下午,在波士頓大學與該校教務長Kenneth Lutchen簽署雙方第四期的「臺灣研究講座」計畫合作備忘錄,該校多年來從事與臺灣相關研究與教學的教授們亦蒞臨見證雙方間逾15年的合作簽署典禮。

教育部自2007年開始與波士頓大學合作臺灣研究講座計畫,17年來,該計畫對於促進波大社區及大波士頓地區對臺灣的認識與瞭解助益良多,為持續增進美國學術重鎮的波士頓對臺灣的瞭解與友誼,教育部與波士頓大學自2023年至2028年第四度合作該計畫,除延續與臺灣相關課程的開設,進行與臺灣相關的國際關係、社會、歷史、文化與宗教等的研究與國際研討會、設置臺灣研究的數位典藏計畫等亦令人期待。

L教務長在致詞時特別點出雙方多年的合作成果,也期許新計畫促使更多的學者和學生對臺灣的瞭解深入且實質,並感謝臺灣教育部17年來的持續信任與合作;教育組黃薳玉組長則代表教育部感謝波大多年來的友誼與合作,並期待在臺美教育倡議啟動及後疫情時代,雙方合作更上層樓,使美國學界及民間對臺灣有更多的認識與同理。

臺灣的國際處境向來不易,作為世界百大之一的波士頓大學向來對臺灣友好,該校對臺友誼近五十年,而該校的臺灣留學生也是新英格蘭地區臺灣留學生人數最多的大學。


🎉On behalf of the Ministry of Education (MOE) of the Republic of China (Taiwan), the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston (TECO-Boston) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) of Taiwan Studies project with Boston University (BU) for the fourth term. On the afternoon of October 24, 2023, Director Cynthia Huang of Education Division TECO-Boston and Provost Kenneth Lutchen of Boston University signed the MOU at Boston University, where professors who have been engaged in Taiwan-related research and teaching for many years were present to witness the signing of the MOU that marks more than 15 years of partnership. 🎊✨

🤝The MOE has been cooperating with BU on the Taiwan Studies Program since 2007, and over the past 17 years, the program has been very helpful in promoting the knowledge and understanding of Taiwan in the BU community and the Greater Boston area. In order to continue to enhance the understanding and friendship in Boston, which is a major academic city in the United States, the MOE and BU are cooperating the program for the fourth term from 2023 to 2028. In addition to the continuation of Taiwan-related courses, the program is expected to conduct research and international symposiums on international relations, society, history, culture, and religions related to Taiwan. It is also exciting to see the establishment of a digital collection archive for Taiwan studies. ✨

In his speech, Provost Lutchen highlighted the results of long-term cooperation between the two sides and expressed his hope that the new program will encourage more scholars and students to gain a deeper and more substantive understanding of Taiwan. He especially thanked the MOE for its continued trust and cooperation over the past 17 years. 👏On behalf of the Ministry of Education of Taiwan, Director Cynthia Huang, expressed her gratitude to the University for its friendship and cooperation over the years. She anticipated the new cooperation will go up the next level, furthering the understanding and empathy of Taiwan by the U.S. academic community and the public in the post-pandemic era and after the launch of U.S.-Taiwan Education Initiative. 🌸🌈

Taiwan's international situation has never been easy, and Boston University, one of the top 100 universities in the world, has always been friendly to Taiwan. Friendship between Boston university and Taiwan has been nearly 50 years. Moreover, BU has the largest Taiwanese students’ population in the New England region. 💖
