Education Division of TECO-Boston held the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) from July to December 2022 in four schools---Middlebury College, Williams College, Lexington Chinese School and Tzu Chi Academy, Boston. The latter two also held the Children’s Chinese Competency Certification (CCCC) test. From July to December 2022, a total of 201 students participated in taking the TOCFL and CCCC tests in New England.
It is worth mentioning about the first ever TOCFL test held at the Middlebury College in Vermont. The school is well-known in the United States for training the Chinese language educators.
To promote for the tests and resources of the Ministry of Education of Taiwan, Boston Education Division hosted a virtual information session for Middlebury College teachers and students on July 11th, 2022. On July 31st, 2022, 46 Middlebury College students registered to take the TOCFL test for the first time. It was a sunny Sunday. Although the registrants had another test assigned by their schoolteachers the next day, they still participated in the TOCFL test, which would connect them with the Taiwan Chinese language education. It was quite a breakthrough of promotion for the TOCFL.
There were other breakthroughs for the TOCFL and CCCC tests in New England as well. The Lexington Chinese School, for the first time, held these language proficiency tests for the second round this year on November 13th, 2022. Both Williams College and Tzu Chi Academy, Boston had resumed offering these tests for their students after stopping for a few years, respectively on October 15th, 2022 and December 4th, 2022.
With the severity of COVID-19 pandemic, all TOCFL and CCCC tests were cancelled in New England in 2021. Director Cynthia Huang of Boston Education Division has spurred much interests of TOCFL and CCCC tests in the region in 2022. The four tests have successfully concluded the second half of year 2022.
