Taiwanese student associations of Harvard University and MIT cohosted a lively Rabbit Year Chinese New Year event on February 11, 2023. About 130 people braved the windy and icy cold weather to participate in the Chinese New Year event held at Lehman Hall of Harvard University, 12,556 km from Taiwan, for the taste of our homeland.
The Presidents of the two student associations explained that organizing this physical Chinese New Year event, the first after the COVID-19 pandemic, was not easy and thanked the organizing team for the various efforts made for the event despite their busy academic schedules. The team received a round of applause and encouragement from all participants for their hard work.
The organizers arranged exciting song and dance performances, witty lantern riddles, and Spring Couplets calligraphy activities, showcasing the talents and abilities of Taiwanese students studying abroad. It fully demonstrated that these seemingly ordinary Taiwanese students are “Crouching Tigers and Hidden Dragons”. We are truly proud of our Taiwanese students, for their intelligence, artistic literacy, and modesty.
The attendees had a great time all night. The participating organizations in the event also provided raffle prizes, spurring energy and hope for the students in the beginning of the new year. On behalf of the Ministry of Education, Director Cynthia Huang of the Education Division supported the event by subsiding, donating raffle prizes and participating throughout the event.
Thank you, the hardworking Taiwanese student associations of Harvard and MIT, for providing a memorable weekend evening for Taiwanese students and friends of different ages from various parts of Boston. Wishing everyone a healthy and prosperous Year of the Rabbit!
