e National Taiwan Library Fellowship for International Visiting Scholars and Students Open for Application 友善列印

To enhance collaboration and foster academic exchange with foreign academic institutions, as well as to provide incentives and financial support for experts and scholars from foreign universities or research institutions to conduct academic research at the National Taiwan Library (hereinafter referred to as “the Library"), the guidelines to the National Taiwan Library Fellowship for International Visiting Scholars and Students (hereinafter referred to as “the Fellowship” Mandarin ver.English ver.) are hereby established.

I. Eligibility

The recipients of the Fellowship (hereinafter referred to as “the Recipients”) include:

1.Professors, associate professors, assistant professors, senior lecturers, lecturers, postdoctoral researchers, doctoral candidates, and doctoral students from relevant departments of foreign universities. This also encompasses librarians or individuals holding equivalent positions in libraries or research institutions.

2.Individuals outside the aforementioned categories, recommended by institutions that have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for international academic collaboration with the Library, provided their research topics align with those specified in Article II.

Individuals currently engaged in research, teaching, or studying in Taiwan are not eligible to apply.

II. The Research Topic: The research fields supported by the Fellowship should be in the social sciences and humanities, focusing on topics related to Taiwan studies and Southeast Asia studies.

III. Required Documents

1. Application form (online application).

2. Curriculum vitae (including a list of publications).

3. Research proposal (principally in Mandarin or English, limited to 3 pages, following academic research conventions).

4. One letter of recommendation and one letter of consent from the highest administrative authority of the current institution.

IV. Application Date and Deadline: From the date of announcement to March 29, 2024

V.Results Announcement: The list of the Recipients will be announced on the Library's website by the end of May

VI.Application Procedure: The application is exclusively online; paper applications will not be accepted.

VII.Online Application Link (available from the date of announcement to March 29, 2024).

VIII. Number of the Recipients: with a general guideline of 1 to 3 individuals and may be left vacant based on the selection results

IX.Desired Start Date: Available exclusively from 1st June to 1st July 2024.

X.Duration: In principle, the Fellowship duration is three months and is extendable if necessary, up to a maximum of six months.

XI.The Fellowship encompasses the following provisions:

1.Airfare Subsidy:

(1)One round-trip economy class ticket for the Recipients to travel to Taiwan.

(2)The airfare is reimbursed according to the actual purchase price, with a maximum subsidy for each region as follows:

a.Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia: NT$35,000.

b.Other regions: NT$60,000.

2.Monthly Stipend:

(1)The Recipients with a Ph.D. degree, such as professors, researchers, associate professors, associate researchers, senior lecturers, assistant professors, assistant researchers, lecturers, and postdoctoral researchers, will receive a monthly stipend of NT$60,000.

(2)The Recipients without a Ph.D. degree, such as doctoral students and visiting scholars, recommended by collaborating institutions will receive a monthly stipend of NT$40,000.
