Taiwan kicks off 2023 Spring English Teachers & Teaching Assistants Recruitment! 友善列印

Have you ever thought about working abroad? How about teaching English while living in Taiwan? Taiwan has constantly been described by international friends as friendly, safe, convenient and dynamic, not to mention its richness in spectacular natural landscapes, diversified cultures, fantastic local delicacies, world-class health care and warm hospitality.

To create more opportunities for Taiwanese students to learn English in schools nationwide, the Ministry of Education (MOE) launched the Taiwan Foreign English Teacher Program (TFETP) to expand the recruitment of foreign English teachers and teaching assistants. To qualify for teaching English in public schools in Taiwan, candidates must be native speakers with a bachelor's degree or higher and have a clean criminal record. A state-issued teaching license or credential is also required for teachers, but not for teaching assistants.

The monthly salary for English teachers ranges from NT$65,230 to NT$100,010, equivalent to around US$2,090 to US$3,200, subject to the exchange rate, plus travel subsidy, health insurance and other benefits. The salary will be decided by the teacher’s highest education level and years of full-time teaching experience.

English teaching assistants work with local teachers to create an immersive English learning environment that encourages students to actively learn English and improve their overall English proficiency. Teaching assistants receive a scholarship of a monthly salary in the amount of NT$48,000, equivalent to around US$1,538, plus travel subsidy, health insurance and other benefits.

The 2023 Spring recruitment is open now, and the application is made on a rolling basis, which means that the program will close once all of the available places have been filled. There is intense competition for admission; early applications have a greater chance of being successful and meeting visa deadlines. Please visit https://tfetp.epa.ntnu.edu.tw/en/tfetp/web/apply_now for more information. For further inquiries, please contact TFETP at applytfetp@deps.ntnu.edu.tw or the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles at losangeles@mail.moe.gov.tw.
